Penguin Design Award

Design a Penguin Adult or Puffin childrens front cover.

To be eligible for the 2010 competition, you must be a student on any year of an Art or Design course at HND or degree level. The competition is open to international students and to MA students. The competition is not open to students on an Art Foundation course.

YOU MUST PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING SUBMISSIONS FOR EACH DESIGN ENTRY:

  • An A3 board showing full jacket to scale 1:1. This must show front, back and spine and must be designed to the dimensions supplied in the brief. There should be no additional work shown on this board.
  • An A3 board showing the front cover only (without the spine or back cover) to scale 1:1.
  • An A3 board demonstrating the development of the thought process from the original research to the final concept.
  • A bound photocopy of sketchbook work relating to the brief (no bigger than A3).
  • A short, typewritten text (max. 50–100 words only) submitted as a hard-copy printout and also saved as a Word document, explaining the concept for your design.

1st Prize

The winner of the Penguin Adult Prize will be invited to spend six weeks at Penguin in the design studio on a work placement, working with Penguin Art Directors Jim Stoddart and John Hamilton on live briefs. The winner will also receive a cash prize of £1,000.

2nd Prize

The winner of the 2nd Prize will receive a £350 cash prize.

3rd Prize

The winner of the 3rd Prize will receive a £250 cash prize.
